Meet the new Bond girls

Meet the new Bond girls, Unofficial photos from the set of Skyfall have been keeping James Bond fans at bay over the past month, offering an early look at Oscar-winner Javier Bardem as the film’s mysterious villain Silva – and revealing that a certain building with all-too-important ties to 007′s past comes under attack in the film, which marks Daniel Craig’s third round as the iconic secret agent man.

A pair of officially-sanctioned Skyfall featurettes have now been released, focusing on two important new acting additions to the Bond series: Bérénice Marlohe, who plays the latest in a long line of “Bond girls” – a character named Sévérine – and Naomie HarrisSimilar to the Skyfall video blog focusing on director Sam Mendes (American Beauty), the behind-the-scenes clip centering on Marlohe is primarily composed of an interview with the French starlet talking about her affection for the Bond franchise – plus footage of the actress in a promotional photo shoot (and, briefly, working on set). So, as far as providing insight into the actual film goes… well, as you’ll see, that’s really not what this clip is about. Watch that video below and see what we mean:In summation: Marlohe is an attractive woman who loves the James Bond property. That’s akin to the idea with the Harris-centered featurette, which is composed largely of footage revealing the actress in weapons training – just to offer extra assurance that, yes, Harris as Eve will look terrific while gunning down her opponents in Skyfall.Jokes about the flimsy nature of these new Skyfall featurettes aside: Marlohe and Harris both seem like solid fits for their respective parts in the film. Add to that Bardem as (hopefully) an antagonist who poses a genuine physical threat to Craig as Bond, Ralph Fiennes as an enigmatic figure – along with seasoned veterans like Judi Dench and Albert Finney – and Skyfall boasts one of the classiest casts for a Bond movie in a long time (ever?). While Mendes’ involvement likewise lends an air of prestige to Skyfall, his inexperience as an action director has left some fans concerned that history could repeat itself after Quantum of Solace – which suffered from uneven camera work during its big set pieces, seemingly because helmer Marc Forster (like Mendes) was foremost experienced at making character-oriented dramas, not blockbusters. An impressive teaser trailer could help put some of those fears to rest, of course
