Paul Allen's band "Grown Men", If you just watched 60 Minutes tonight, you saw Leslie Stahl interview Billionaire Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. I am a bit of a tech buff and am also a huge fan of Paul Allen. The man is simply a genius and doesn’t receive enough credit where credit is due. Yet, one of the biggest reasons why I am captivated by the man is his fascination with music.
His net worth enables him to purchase the iconic collectibles that you or I could only dream of owning, such as one of Hendrix’s guitars. If you didn’t see his mountains of guitars, you need to check out the video clip below. The greatest thing Paul has done from music is that he shared it. Back in 2000 he opened Experience Music Project Museum in Seattle, which I have yet to set foot in. Don’t worry, it’s on my bucket list. The museum is dedicated to the history and exploration of music. It houses exhibitions like the Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses, Jimi Hendrix: An Evolution of Sound, plus the Guitar Gallery that takes you through the history of guitars. For more information check outHis love for music stems from being a musician, and a pretty good one at that. I am not saying he’s a pro, but he has played with icons such as Mick Jager and Peter Gabriel. He has his own band and they call themselves Grown Men. They cut a 7 track album that was produced by Paul and Terry Davison and written by Paul. Mind you, it was released awhile back. You can hear some of the audio clips here. He also took the band out for a few dates at the House of Blues even though one of them was cancelled due to “scheduling conflicts,” but it was also around the time Paul was diagnosed again with stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer. What’s Paul up to now? He wrote a memoir about starting up Microsoft and his life. All I really want to know is: When I can grab a beer and hear him live? I always seem to miss it.
