Nfl Replacement refs

Nfl Replacement refs, Outside talk of the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal and Peyton Manning’s move west, arguably the most discussed NFL issue so far this year has been the replacement referees.

The regular NFL referees were locked out by the league in June after the refs current contract ended and the two sides couldn’t get on the same page at negotiations. So during post-season, and now into the regular season, the NFL has used replacement refs for the first time since 2001.

On Friday, Associated Press football writer Barry Wilner reported that league officials and locked out refs met two days this week and a “person familiar with the negotiations said Friday the sides remain far apart and no further talks are scheduled.” Wilner’s article later said he was told the two sides have “significant and serious economic gaps.”

Watching any NFL game, announcers will watch replays and show you missed calls throughout the game. There have been a few higher profile missed calls so far, such as one crew giving the Seattle Seahawks an extra timeout by accident  late in the game while the Seahawks were trying to score a last-minute go-ahead score. Seattle ended up losing even with the extra timeout.

It’s not just missed calls people have an issue with, though. On Thursday, NFL.com reported that the league office warned all 32 teams about confrontational behavior toward the replacement refs after seeing players and coaches get in the faces of refs.

Another replacement ref, Brian Stropolo, was pulled from last week’s Saints-Carolina Panthers game after pictures were discovered on his Facebook wearing Saints gear and going to Saints games. He also posted his assignment for which game he’d be working last week, which is a violation from league policy, according to ESPN.com.

Eagles running back LeSean McCoy told Philadelphia radio station 94WIP that the replacement refs are like fans, and one told him he needed McCoy to have a good day for the ref’s fantasy team.
